QUESTION: Can I charge my Booma flight pack with a charger designed for Lithium Iron or Lithium Polymer chemistry? 

ANSWER: NO. Booma Flight Packs should only be charged with a charger capable of charging LiFePO4 battery chemistry.

Tests have shown that Booma LiFePO4 chemistry is very robust against over voltage charging however damage may result to an individual cell and this damage may not become apparent until you use the model. Always remember, use common sense and always check the voltage of your flight pack under load before flight.

We recommend the Booma RC Intelliswitch for use with your receiver packs.
 


QUESTION: I am building a 100cc powered model with a total of 8 high powered servos. What is the recommended flight pack configuration?
Booma flight packs can deliver up to 10C current so you could use:

1)    1 x 2600mAh pack for receiver and a 1200Ma pack for the ignition. This will deliver the current required to power the receiver servos however you will not have any battery redundancy should a battery fail.

2)    2 x 2600mAh pack for receiver and a 1200Ma pack for the ignition. . This will deliver the current required to power the receiver servos and provide you with dual battery redundancy at the cost of a little extra weight. 

3)    2 x1200mAh pack for receiver and a 1200Ma pack for the ignition.  This combination could be used in a competition airplane however you would be monitoring battery capacity and charging on a regular basis. You would also have dual battery redundancy in a light weight combination.
 

 

QUESTION: I am building a 150cc to 250cc powered model with a total of 11 high powered servos and 2 low power servos for throttle and choke functions. What is the recommended flight pack configuration?

Booma flight packs can deliver up to 5 times more current than Lithium Iron packs so you could use either of 3 combinations.

1)    2 x 2600mAh flight packs and 1 x 1200Ma pack for ignition.  This combination will deliver the current required to power the receiver servos and will also give you battery redundancy for driving servos. Check our 34% to 40% offer in the battery section.

2)    2 x 3600mAh flight packs and 1 x 1200Ma pack for ignition.  This combination will deliver the current required to power the receiver servos and will also give you battery redundancy for driving servos. You will also have heaps of headroom without the need to recharge on a regular basis. I have used this combination at competitions and completed the competition (6 - 8 flights) without the need to charge the packs.

3)    4 x 1200mAh flight packs and 1 x 2600 mA pack for ignition. This is probaly over the top but you will be guarateed of redundancy in your model. You will also have excellent headroom and will also give you 4 X battery redundancy. The downside is that when it comes time to charge you will need to have a charge setup that can charge 4 batteriies simultaneously. 
 
 

What is the recommended flight pack configuration for my gas engine electronic ignition system?
Most modern systems will draw between 600mAh – 900mAh when the engine is running. Twin spark systems may draw a little more. If weight is an issue then a single 1200mAh is more than adequate to power electronic ignition systems. You will find this matches the charge cycle of 2 x 2600mA packs very well. If weight is not an issue and you want a system that does not require charging every 4 - 5 flight then I suggest a 2600mAH pack as an ignition pack. The penalty being a little extra weight.
 

Do I need a regulator with my ignition system if I use LiFe batteries?
Most manufacturers will state whether you should use a regulator or not. Our experiences with DA ignition systems is that you do not need to regulate the battery output of Booma RC LiFe batteries when using them with DA ignition systems.

We recommend the Booma RC Ignition failsafe switch for swithiching you model's ignition system.

Can I use Booma RC flight pack as a glow driver?
Yes the power delivery is available so you could however, the standard receiver pack has a nominal voltage of 6.4 volts so you would need to regulate this voltage to the desired level or risk burning out a glow plug.
